About
Kevin McConnaughey grew up in a family that valued arts and crafts. His father was both a skilled amateur sculptor in wood and also a metalsmith and lapidary artist. Kevin began learning about lapidary as young man from his paternal grandfather who taught him the basics of cutting, grinding, and polishing cabochons. His first exposure to metalsmithing was at Mt. Whitney High School, in Visalia, California. He learned lost wax casting in Arts classes taught by Rondald Loyd, the head of the Fine Arts department. Kevin’s work combines traditional lost wax casting, digital modeling, and precision 3D printing with traditional jewelry fabrication techniques.
